Funded by the National Science Foundation (Award #2042655), the University of California, Davis is host to the HSI Strategic Innovation Summit for Advanced Research and Instruction in Artificial Intelligence and Quantum Information Sciences (HSI-SIS). The HSI-SIS is virtual summit series that assembles computing faculty, institutional leaders, and sponsoring agencies to exchange ideas and to foster partnerships that enhance HSI participation in the latest artificial intelligence/data science (AI/DS) and quantum information science (QIS) initiatives. The summit is based on a 3-pillar interactive feedback model for convening groups across 3 areas: curriculum, research, and broadening participation. This model is used to identify ways to develop or expand infrastructures needed to enhance research and to increase the number of AI/DS and QIS courses and concepts presented to first and second-year college students. The long-term goal of the summit is to increase the number of graduates from HSIs who are equipped with hiring-level knowledge of data science/artificial intelligence and quantum computing.
Part 1 of the summit, titled "Call to Action + AI Education," was held on June 21. Part Two will focus on research and workforce development in QIS and is scheduled for Spring 2022.
